WINTER 2023
Nature Journalling - Saturday Sessions
Nature Journalling - Drawing in Darebin Parklands
The Saturday Sessions journal drawing returns but a little bit different - this term focused on Nature Journalling. We will continue to explore art journaling but at a different location in nature, that being Darebin Parklands. The sessions will be held once a week and will be more like a class then before, but also at a new time. We will be journalling from nature together, drawing the landscape in Marco and micro – drawing leaves, trees, bark, rocks, moss and whatever else we find.
I will be guiding you, teaching you, drawing beside you. I will give you tips for drawing from observation, we will try different techniques too. I will still be drawing along-side you and ask any questions and learn from each other. We meet in all weathers, (under shelter if needed) and I may bring my elderly dog Sundi too. We can draw nature, people, animals and more. This term you can either come casually or pay in advance for a block of sessions at a discount. Just bring your journal and come along. These are great fun! :) Welcome.

About Katie Roberts, Artist and Teacher
Welcome, so glad to see you here.
I am a professional artist with a passion for sharing my knowledge in a fun and informative way. I believe everyone can learn to draw. I studied art for ten years, I have a Masters of Fine Art and have been supporting artists for nearly two decades. I have been running my own classes since for nearly ten years and teach drawing at university in Melbourne as well.
I am a Melbourne based artist who makes large-scale drawings, mixed media works, oil paintings and multi-sensory installations.I have been tutoring and mentoring artists for the last 15 years. I started running art classes at Span Community House in Thornbury in 2011.
I genuinely believe that anyone can learn to draw and that the basic techniques are a skill set like reading and writing.
I have an encouraging and friendly approach. I teach in a fun, challenging and experimental way, while imparting a strong knowledge of traditional techniques and skills as well.
I hold a Masters of Fine Art and a Honours Degree in Fine Art majoring in Drawing from RMIT where I studied under renowned drawing teacher Godwin Bradbeer. I have been life drawing for 25 years. I have held 15 solo exhibitions, and my artwork in held in many private collections.
I work from my studio at home in leafy Melbourne Australia.
